* We passed 5,000 miles today!

** Today we rode in Maine, New Hampshire, Vermont, Massachusetts, and Connecticut.

We left camp around 7am (a new record) and enjoyed every second of the morning hours.  The sun shining, cool breeze, and passing through the beautiful greenery could not be more pleasant.  Periodically we would see a short span of orange, red, and yellow trees and it gave us a brief preview of how amazingly beautiful this part of the country can be in the Fall.  Truly breathtaking.

Didn't get many shots, but this was just off the highway.

We rode for almost 10 hours today and spent the first 6.5 hours driving only 220 miles (and it doesn’t help when Greg wants to stop every few miles to take a picture… we use the small camera for blog pictures).  Amazingly slow riding, and amazingly beautiful.  We rode across Highway 2 through Maine, New Hampshire and Vermont and periodically hitting many one lane roads with construction workers stopping traffic.

Periodically we had to stop for several minutes, so we would cut our engines.  When it appeared we were about to start, we started our engines again and got set.  Usually it turned out we had to wait longer, so we cut our engines again.  Jerry liked to refer to these moments as ‘Premature Ignition’.  But fortunately, after a little more time, we got to start our engines again and continue the ride.

After the 6.5 hours of riding, we realized that we were still 10 hours away from York, Pennsylvania (our next stop where we have an opportunity to help out)… and we are suppose to be there tomorrow!  Going through the mountains is wonderful, but we were not making good time!  So we changed plans and hit up an interstate and booked it.  Surprisingly, the highway was great and we made great time and enjoyed every mile.  Starting to get dark, we decided to put on another 2 hours before calling it night, leaving 6 hours for the next day.

We headed south through Massachusetts and arrived at our destination in Hartford, Connecticut right after dark.  Trying to wind down, we celebrated our 5,000th mile, and called it a night.

Tomorrow we arrive in York, Pennsylvania and have the opportunity to help out doing some remodeling or something similar!  Not sure about the details, but you’ll hear about it soon!
