Wow.  We just can’t win with the weather.  We are either storm chasing or heat wave following.  In the 100+ degree weather, our automatic cooling system (aka The Wind) has turned into a constant stream of heat… and there is no stopping it.  The only relief is when the hot air feels cool on the skin as it hits your already wet clothing.  After a few hours in the 101 degree heat, we were hurting.  We drank about 32oz of liquids and never needed to pee.  When we stopped for the drinks, we had some afternoon inspiration:

Somebody gets it!

Somebody gets it!

We continued for another 100 miles until we decided we needed a break.  Then, soaking wet from sweat, dry lips and dry throats, we knew we weren’t fully enjoying this ride.  We were still having a good day, just really uncomfortable.  We hid in an air conditioned Starbucks and decided to wait a few hours until it cooled down.  We were very fortunate to make this decision.

At 6:30pm, we took off once again.  The clouds in the sky sheltered us from the direct rays of the sun and the cooler breeze was back!  This delayed ride turned out to be one of the most enjoyable rides of the trip.  Not only was there very little traffic, warm temperatures and a cool breeze.  There was an amazing sunset as well!

A perfect ride...

A perfect ride...

We rode West on this glorious evening and watched until the last shades of blues, oranges, and reds faded into a dark blue.  The clouds dispersed and allowed for the bright shining stars to peak down and lead us to our final destination in Dublin, Virginia.  No stars picture, but here we are unpacking for the night:

Calling it a night.
